What a nice website for a small town! My family is thinking of moving to Derry. Looks like a great place to raise kids! :-) I love the historical society section. We'll come visit next month. Keep up the great work!

beep beep richie. Anyway, don't move here. Trust me on this one. The town eats kids. I'm not kidding. I haven't been back in 27 years and I have nightmares about it every single night. Whoever's reading this from out of state — go to Castle Rock. Go to Bangor. Go ANYWHERE else. — Rich

Beautiful fall weather this week. Walked through Bassey Park this morning. Saw the strangest thing — the light was different somehow. Like the air had colors in it. Bright ones around some folks, dim around others. Must be getting old. Lois says I'm not sleeping enough and she's probably right. Thirty-seven days now without a full night's rest. Dr. Litchfield says try warm milk.

Anyone need photos taken for the Historical Society lecture flyer? I've got a few good shots of the Ironworks site from last spring — misty morning, the chimney ruins really look the part. Contact me at the Derry News office or leave a message here. Volunteer rates for community events.

Does anyone else hear singing coming from the drains at night?? Not joking. Been going on 3 weeks now. Sounds like children. My wife thinks I'm crazy. I posted on the bulletin board too but nobody answered me there either. Please. If you hear it. Write to me.

DerryMom_1963 — 10/01/94 — Derry, ME
God bless Derry and all its children. ✝ Praying for the missing little ones. May our Heavenly Father watch over us all. Lighting a candle at St. Bartholomew's tonight for the Corcoran boy. Please join me in prayer.

Drove through Derry last week. Stopped for gas at the station on Outer Main. The attendant told me not to let my kids out of the car. Said it like he meant it. We were the only customers. I didn't see a single child anywhere in town. Not one. We drove on to Bangor and I couldn't shake the feeling. Something is wrong there.

To whoever keeps defacing library books with drawings of a turtle — please stop. These are public property. The turtle drawings appear in books that haven't been checked out, in sections that are locked overnight. Please.

Also, I know what year it is. I know it's happening again. If you're reading this and you remember — call me. You promised. The numbers are the same. You can find me at the library.

I had the strangest dream about Derry last night. I grew up there but I can barely remember it. Like trying to hold water in my hands. Something about a dam we built in The Barrens? There were six other kids. A girl with red hair. A boy who stuttered. I keep trying to remember their names and they slip away.

Mike — if you read this — I think I'm starting to remember. I felt my old scar burn yesterday. I haven't felt that in 27 years.

JakeE_Texas — 09/22/94 — Jodie, TX
I visited Derry once. It was 1958. The town felt wrong in a way I still can't explain — like the air pressure was different there. I saw kids playing by the canal who seemed terrified of something I couldn't see. A woman in a window pulled her shade down when I looked up at her house. I didn't stay long.

You couldn't pay me to go back. I don't know why I'm posting this on a town website 36 years later. Maybe I needed to tell someone. Be careful, Derry.

BillD_Writer — 09/20/94 — London, England
I keep writing stories about a town like Derry. I don't know why. I can't stop. Something happened there when I was a kid but it's like looking through frosted glass — I see shapes, I feel feelings, but nothing comes clear. My wife says I say things in my sleep.

"He thrusts his fists against the posts and still insists he sees the ghosts."

I haven't said that out loud in 27 years. Why am I saying it now?

JimG_Augusta — 09/18/94 — Augusta, ME
I research small town websites for a state project. Derry has the highest missing persons rate in Maine. By a factor of six. Per capita, you've lost more children than Boston, Bangor, and Portland combined. Does anyone at the DPD actually read this? I've filed inquiries with your records department. No response.

EddieK_NYC — 09/15/94 — New York, NY
My doctor says my asthma is psychosomatic. I believe him. But sometimes when I see a storm drain I can't breathe at all. I run a limo company in Manhattan. I see storm drains every day. Some days are fine. Some days I have to pull over and use my inhaler twice.

I don't know why I'm writing this here. I haven't thought about Derry in years. Then this morning I dreamed about it and now I can't stop. Sorry. Probably nothing.

BevMarsh — 09/12/94 — Chicago, IL
Why does the sound of running water make me want to scream?

I'm sorry. I don't know why I'm asking strangers this. I just searched my old hometown on WebCrawler and your site came up. I haven't been back to Derry since I was 11. I left in August 1958. My father is dead. There's no reason to go back. So why do I keep dreaming about a bathroom sink full of blood?

Your town reminds me of a place I visited that doesn't seem to exist on any map. Some places are thin. The walls between worlds wear through. There was a town like this where I went, only the sky was wrong and the people there had forgotten what they were under. Be careful. The thin places call to each other.

If you ever find a stairway going down where one shouldn't be — don't take it.
Or do. It depends on what you need to do.

What a wonderful town :-) I love the children here. So many happy children. I've been waiting such a long time and there are so many balloons to give away. Each one a different color. Did you know balloons come in every color of the rainbow? Even colors you can't see.

See you soon!   🎈  🎈  🎈

I've lived here my whole life. It's a good town. Safe. Nothing bad ever happens here. I don't know what all these out-of-towners are going on about. We had a child go missing last week, sure, but that happens everywhere. Derry is a fine town. We take care of our own. Stop scaring people.

StanU_Atlanta — 08/28/94 — Atlanta, GA
I got a phone call last week from someone in Derry. I can't remember what we talked about but I've been sick ever since. My hands won't stop shaking. My wife asks me what's wrong and I can't tell her because I don't know.

The caller asked me to come back. I think I said yes. I don't want to go.

photographer_ME — 08/20/94 — Rockland, ME
Took photos near the Standpipe for an art project last month. Every single photo came out overexposed or blurred. The camera works fine everywhere else. Tested it in three other towns since. Crystal clear. Something about that building. Has anyone else had this happen? The film cost me a week's pay.

trucker_i95 — 08/15/94 — Manchester, NH
I drive through Derry twice a month on deliveries. Is it just me or does the town look different every time? Streets seem to move. I swear the Paul Bunyan statue wasn't facing that direction last month. The exit off I-95 has been in three different places in two years. Maybe I'm losing it from too many night runs. Still. Weirdest town on my route.

Just found this website! Cool!! :-D How do I make one for MY town?? My cousin showed me how the Internet works last weekend. This is so neat! I love that small towns can be on the World Wide Web now! :-) :-)

Testing testing 1 2 3! Found this on WebCrawler. Neat site! My first guestbook signing :-) Hope this works. The future is the World Wide Web!
